Mukhyamantri Amrutum Yojana/Scheme is one of those government initiatives that have been taken to help the poor receive medical care. It’s a tertiary health insurance scheme that was launched by the Government of Gujarat on the 4th of September, 2012. Earlier this scheme was meant for the people below the poverty line. However, later the benefits of the scheme were extended to lower-middle class families also.

 Features of the Mukhyamantri Amrutum Yojana  

Here are some of the salient features of this scheme: 

  • Those eligible to receive the benefits of this scheme can get medical and surgical treatment at the empanelled hospitals. You’ll be issued a card (Vatsalya Card) which will contain the list of such hospitals.
  • The beneficiaries can just show their card at the empanelled hospital and do not need to pay anything for the treatment. This means it’s a cashless scheme.
  • The scheme, also known by the name Mukhyamantri Amrutum Vatsalya Yojana, covers your transportation charges, medical consultation, hospitalization, treatment and surgery.
  • It is the duty of the hospitals to arrange all the medicines and tests required by the patients.
  • There is no age bar; the names of the family members should be enrolled in one ration card.
  • When required, one can inquire about anything related to the hospital by calling the toll-free number 1800 233 1022.

 Benefits of the Scheme

 Some of the important benefits receivable by the people of Gujarat under this scheme are:

  • The scheme covers 1,763 medical procedures.
  • It lets you claim cashless treatment of up to Rs. 5 lakhs.
  • For every visit to the empanelled hospital, the beneficiaries are given Rs. 300 as the transport charges.
  • Families with an annual income of up to Rs. 4,00,000 per annum can also avail of these benefits along with the families which come below the poverty line.

 Diseases and Treatments Covered Under the Scheme

Here is a list of some of the diseases covered under this scheme, which benefits all MA Amrutam cardholders:

  • Burns, polytrauma, renal disease
  • Liver, pancreas, kidney transplant, etc.
  • Joint replacement
  •  Neonatal diseases
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Neurological disease and surgery
  • Hip and knee replacement
  • Cancer (malignancies)

There are some exclusions as well. The scheme does not cover some non-emergency procedures and some of the cosmetic treatments such as plastic surgery meant for better appearance.

Eligibility Criteria

The following are the eligibility conditions:

  • The families should have an annual income of up to Rs. 4 lakhs.
  • Accredited reporters.
  • You need to be a U-win cardholder.
  • All ASHA or Accredited Social Health Activist workers are also eligible, both urban and rural.
  • Employees of classes 3 and 4, appointed by the state government and having a fixed pay.
  • Elderly people coming from households with an annual income of Rs. 6 lakhs.
  • Beneficiaries whose information is there on the district BPL list created by the rural and urban development of the state government; and who come from BPL (below the poverty line) families.

How to Enroll in the Mukhyamantri Amrutum Yojana

Here is the enrolment process:

  • You need to visit the Civic Center kiosk at a Taluka or visit the mobile kiosk.
  • Enrolling will require your biometric information such as iris scan and fingerprints, along with your family members’ photographs.
  • At the Civil Center or the kiosk office, you first need to fill out the required Mukhyamatri Amrutum card application in Gujarati as well as proper family details.
  • Your documents will be verified, after which you will be given a related pamphlet and the MA card.

The documents required for enrolling at the Nodal agency include

  • Proof of identity (PAN card, Adhaar card, Driving license or Voter ID card)
  • BPL certificate
  • Income certificate
  • Address proof (ration card)
  • Mobile number
  • Passport size photograph

Moreover, to complete the enrolment process, you will need to visit the Nodal Agency. You will get the MA Vatsalya card application form pdf or a physical form that you’ll need to fill out and submit.

After the process, you can check your status online and offline. To check the status of your card, you can visit the kiosk again, or visit the MA Gujarat website and use your login details to check the status. The website will help you know a lot of details related to the scheme.

In case your MA Vatsalya card is lost, you can get a new one at the Taluk kiosk. Submitting the MA card document will let you avail of the coverage in times of medical emergency.

Claiming the Benefits of the Scheme

Once you are successfully enrolled, you can visit your nearest network/empanelled hospital and get the diagnosis done. After submitting your MA health card and other necessary documents, the medical institution will seek pre-authorisation from the insurer. Once it is approved by the insurer, you can avail the treatment. Post-treatment, the hospital will send all documents to the insurer for settlement.  

A Few Important Points to Note

  • Your MA card is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. So, you’ll need to get it renewed timely to keep availing of the benefits.
  • You can go to the Playstore to download the Mukhyamantri Amrutum Vatsalya App and stay updated about the MA Yojana through several other applications available there.
  • To download your MA Vatsalya card, you can go to the Mukhyamantri Amrutum portal, search for the nearest kiosk and get the required application form.
  • Up to five family members can benefit from the Vatsalya Card.
  • One may get help from the related officials through email addresses: mayojanagujrat@gmail.com and nhpmgujarat@gmail.com. In the empanelled hospitals, you can also find Arogya Mitras who serve as guides to help you avail of the benefits of the scheme.
