The Bhamashah Swasthya Bima Yojana (BSBY) or Bhamashah Health Insurance Scheme was started on December 13, 2015. Eligible families are given cashless health services in private as well as government hospitals under this scheme. The purpose is to reduce the expenditure incurred on health. The scheme was launched by Vasundhara Raje in Rajasthan and targets BPL (below poverty line) patients.

Features and Benefits of the Scheme

  • This scheme is for the identified families who are covered under the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) and the National Food Security Act (NFSA). IPD patients can avail of cashless treatment.
  • The scheme is by the government (Medical and Health Department).
  • It provides services against a fixed premium/family/year on a floater basis. That is, the eligible families need to pay a fixed amount every year to enjoy the coverage benefits.
  • Every eligible family is given Rs. 30,000/year for general ailments and Rs. 3 lakhs for critical illnesses.
  • For the expenditures incurred on hospitalization, expenditure up to 15 days and 7 days before hospitalization has also been included.
  • The chosen insurer for this scheme is the New India Assurance Company. This insurance company offers very attractive insurance plans at affordable premiums and with comprehensive features.
  • There is no age bar and family members can also gain coverage. While the OPD (Outpatient Department) expenses are covered, transport allowance for polytrauma and cardiac cases amounts to Rs. 100 to Rs. 500. Pre-existing illnesses are also covered.
  • A mobile application has also been launched to help people track their applications.
  • The insured will get to choose from 1045 packages under general illnesses, 500 packages under critical illnesses along 170 packages for government hospitals. The scheme will cover expenses related to medicines, beds, consultant’s fees, implants, nursing and boarding charges, blood, transportation allowance, consumables, food for the beneficiary when hospitalized, etc.

BSBY Claim Procedure

All the applicants (only residents of Rajasthan) need to have an Aadhar card to be used at the time of registration, as well as their BPL cards. The beneficiary needs to show the policy card along with other personal identification proof during admission to the hospital. Once authorization is obtained, treatment commences. Only applicants with the Bhamashah card can avail of the policy benefits. They should have an account opened under this scheme.

Documents required

  • Prescription of the doctor
  • Valid photo ID of the patient
  • Indoor slip
  • Valid ID of BSBY beneficiaries (a copy of ration card/RSBY card)
  • Photos of the patient both at the times of admission and discharge
  • Discharge ticket
  • Investigation reports’ copies

Basically, the process is manual, where the applicant needs to visit a network hospital with the required documents and get their application form filled up by the appointed individual.

Bhamashah Card

This card is a new scheme of the Rajasthan government to make women the head of a family. The eldest woman in each family in the state gets this card, after which the government opens a bank account in her name. This is for women empowerment. The Bhamashah card is linked to the beneficiary’s mobile number.

Downloading the Bhamashah Card

You need to register your name at the SSO portal of the state.

  • Visit https://sso.rajasthan.gov.in/signin
  • Login to the portal with your SSO ID, captcha code and password
  • Tap on Citizen App and click on Bhamashah
  • Again, click on E-Bhamashah Card and provide the required information
  • Finally, you can download the card

One can also update the Bhamashah Card bank account by visiting https://emitra.rajasthan.gov.in/content/emitra/en/home.html and logging in to eMitra. Tap on Bank Detail and enter the required receipt number. You will be directed to the page with your bank account details where you can make necessary changes.

Talking of activating the card, you will first need to register your name under this Bhamashah scheme. Select Bhamashah Citizen Enrollment and enter your registration number. You will now be directed to the enrolment form, where you can fill in all details and submit the same to finally receive a receipt number on your registered mobile number.
