Varicose vein stripping is a surgical procedure that removes varicose veins from the legs or thighs. Varicose veins are the puffy and twisted veins that you can see under the skin.
Varicose vein stripping treats varicose veins and helps prevent them from coming back. The procedure is also known as vein stripping with ligation, avulsion, or ablation.

Varicose veins are enlarged twisted veins. They generally occur in the legs due to malfunctioning veins mainly caused due to the pressure created from standing and sitting for a long time.
Treatment options (minimally invasive procedures) for varicose veins include:
Based on the stage of varicose veins the doctor will choose to administer either medical intervention or surgical intervention. The doctor may suggest lifestyle changes during the early stages of varicose veins.
The laser fiber is then passed through this catheter and both the fiber can catheters are pulled back slowly destroying the vein completely. This then gets absorbed by the body. This is done as a day-care procedure, and you are able to go home on the same day
Varicose veins are formed when the valves in a vein malfunction or are weak. Your veins help return the blood back to your heart for purification.
The blood in your legs has to move up against gravity to reach the heart. Muscle contractions in your lower legs act as pumps, and elastic vein walls help blood return to your heart.
Your veins also have valves that prevent the back-flow of blood. If these valves are weak or damaged, blood can flow backward and pool in the vein, causing the veins to stretch or twist.
There are many reasons or a combination of reasons why your valves malfunction. They are:
1. Overview: EVLT is a minimally invasive procedure. It uses ultrasound and laser to heat the vein, which causes the vein to close.
3. Post-Surgical Care:
Symptoms can be divided into those that you can see and those that you can see and feel.
Symptoms that you can see:
EVLA stands for Endovenous Laser Ablation. It may also be referred to as EVLT or Endovenous Laser Treatment. This procedure uses laser energy to treat varicose veins under local anesthesia.
This method has many advantages over the traditional vein stripping method. EVLA is usually a day-care procedure, which means you get discharged on the same day.
The patient also does not have any visible cuts, stitches, or scars after the procedure.
1. Overview: In this minimally invasive procedure, a solution is injected directly into the vein, due to which the vein collapses.
3. Post-Surgical Care:
4. Advantages of this Procedure: The procedure does not involve incisions and stitches to care for. With minimal recovery time, you can get up and start walking soon after the procedure.
If left untreated, varicose veins can lead to multiple complications such as ulcers, bleeding, or even blood clots.
Ulcers can form near the varicose veins and are characterized by severe discoloration and pain. Some varicose veins that are close to the skin can burst to lead to blood loss.
There are no real methods to completely prevent varicose veins from occurring. However, improving circulation and the muscle tone in the area will help reduce chances. Other lifestyle changes that one can adopt to reduce chances are by:

In most scenarios doctors will avoid surgery for women who are pregnant
The treatment involved destroying or removing the affected veins. Therefore these veins do not exist in your body anymore. However, the condition can develop on new veins. Post treatment, the doctor will suggest lifestyle changes to reduce chances of new varicose veins from developing.
These stockings prevent varicose veins by building up pressure in the legs by, basically, squeezing it. Due to this pressure, it restricts the blood from pooling in the veins and increasing the blood circulation. Stockings must be used only if prescribed by a doctor.
No. Closing dysfunctional veins will actually improve blood flow. The body will adapt and the blood that was previously pumped up through the dysfunctional vein will now be redirected through other veins. The body will even develop new veins.
No, they are not. There are 3 main venous systems in our body - deep, superficial and perforators. Varicose veins can occur on any of these. The treatment is decided based on which area it has affected.
In most cases, any Varicose veins that had appeared after the start of pregnancy will disappear post childbirth. You need to consult your doctor to know if surgery is required, and if it is, should it be performed before or after childbirth. Complications are rare as it’s an outpatient procedure, however consulting your doctor is required.
No, there are several veins in the legs. When one faulty vein is closed, the blood flow re-routes itself through the normal veins, hence improving the overall blood flow.
Compression stockings should be worn as much as possible, both during day and night, without folds. Correctly and effectively wearing them is necessary. Also, one should consult his/her doctor before using the stockings.
Since the affected vein gets removed, chances of recurrence are very low. But if the same lifestyle is maintained, chances of varicose veins appearing in a different vein increase. The doctor will suggest some lifestyle changes to prevent this.
Most insurances cover this kind of treatment. Also, at Medfin we accept all insurances. You may talk to our medical coordinator to know more.
You can do so if the condition is in its initial stages. This can be done with conservative or medical management. However, stages 3 and 4 of the condition require you to have a minimally invasive procedure done, and surgery, in some cases. You’ll need to consult your doctor to know better.
Left untreated, they can worsen over time, increasing pain, swelling, skin discoloration and breakdown. They may cause inflamed veins and chronic wounds or ulcers, and cause heaviness in the legs.
Vascular surgeons are specialists, trained to treat the diseases of vascular system. They perform surgeries and prescribe medications and exercises for the patients’ better health.
There are several myths which suggest that varicose veins are an inevitable sign of aging, and they occur only to old people. There are other myths suggesting that running can cause varicose veins and that surgery is the only cure.
Vascular surgeons are highly trained to treat diseases of the vascular system. A vascular surgeon not only performs surgeries but will also prescribe medications and exercises to patients who do not need surgery.
Vascular diseases are those medical conditions that affect the blood vessel of the body which consist of veins and arteries. When arteries carrying oxygen-rich blood and veins carrying blood back to the heart malfunction, it can affect various other parts of the body. Conditions such as hardening or blockage of the arteries can obstruct the flow of blood to any part of the body. Other vascular problems may be congenital or develop after pregnancy or a health issue.
We provide surgery, endovascular surgery and non-surgical procedures for an array of vascular conditions. To learn more about the treatments we offer, please see our Vascular Conditions page.
At Medfin, we are partnered with diagnostic centers that have state-of-the-art non-invasive vascular laboratories which are available for comprehensive diagnostic testing of all arteries and veins in the body (with the exception of the brain and heart). Our partner technologists are all highly trained, very experienced, and experts in the testing they perform.

I am 40yr old female. I had extensive deep vein thrombosis in my left leg. Whole leg had swollen & painful. Dr. Shashidhar advised latest treatment to dissolve the clot, since I was young. He also told that if the colts are dissolved by tablets, it may take long time to dissolve & the swollen leg may remain lifelong. So I was advised to undergo thrombolysis by placing catheter in the clots. I was kept in ICU & clot dissolving medicines was given by catheter placed in the clots. Medicines were given for 2 days. The whole swelling disappeared & pain was reduced significantly within one week. I was almost normal & I am on tablets, so that the colts will not form again.
