Magnetic resonance imaging of the wrist is a diagnostic imaging procedure that involves the use of radio waves, a magnetic field, and a computer to create detailed images of the wrist and its associated tissues & structures. With MRI screening of the wrist, your physician can examine your wrist anatomy to rule out any abnormalities.
With this imaging study, your doctor can detect bone fracture and other abnormalities which ordinarily would not be detected by the conventional X-ray or CT scan.
For your wrist to be screened, you’ll have to lie on the scanning table, with your face down. The affected arm will be raised above your head during the scan. Coils will be placed around your wrist to make the images clearer. Using a remote device, the scanning table will slide into the MRI unit and the imaging test is done. Results from the test will be sent to your doctor for analysis.
