MRI angiogram is also known as magnetic resonance angiography. Basically, it is a magnetic resonance imaging used specifically for examination of blood vessels. With an MRI angiogram, your doctor can view the inside of your body. Therefore, in an MRI lower limb angiogram with contrast, the MRI technique is used to view the blood vessels in the lower limb. Before the imaging, a contrast agent will be administered through the IV route to make the image clearer.
Basically, an MRI angiogram allows examination of your blood vessels, so that your doctor can know which are injured, and also to analyze the extent of the damage. An MRI angiogram also aids the doctor in repairing diseased blood vessels in your lower limb.
You will be instructed not to eat or drink prior to the test. A contrast dye will be injected into your arm to improve image quality. You will lie flat on a scan table and slide into the magnetic chamber of the machine. The radio waves and magnetic field will create images of your lower limb. The procedure lasts 30-90 minutes.
