If you experience weakness, pain, or swelling in and around your knee, then you may have a need for a left knee MRI. A left knee MRI allows your doctor to examine your knee and then determine what might be the underlying cause of your symptoms. MRI means magnetic resonance imaging. MRI uses radio waves, magnetic fields, and a computer to create images of the interior of your body.
A left knee MRI is helpful in diagnosing chronic knee problems. It is also helpful in the event of: A tumor Severe acute trauma Athletic injury
An MRI unit is used for the purpose. You will lie on a scanning table in the supine position. Using a remote device, the MRI technician will slide the table into the scanning unit and proceed to take the images. In the case of MRI pelvis with contrast, a contrast substance will be intravenously administered to you before the scan. The function of the contrast agent is to make the images from the scan clearer. Results from the scan are then forwarded to your doctor for analysis, interpretation and possibly, treatment.
