What are braces?

Braces are devices that can be either cosmetic or structural that are used by Orthodontists to straighten teeth that are crooked or misaligned.

They are often used to correct underbites, as well as malocclusions, overbites, open bites, deep bites, cross bites, crooked teeth, and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw.

What are the different type of braces?

Rs. 2,50,000 onwards

EMI Rs. 9000 onwards

Can braces be worn at any age?

An ideal time for placement of braces is between 10-14 yrs of age.

However, Orthodontic treatments are available to both children and adults who wish to improve their appearance and bite.

The main differences between treatments in adults and children is that certain corrections in adults may require more than braces alone and the treatments may take longer because adult bones are no longer growing.

How long do you have to wear them ?

The time duration for which one would have to wear depends on the treatment plan and the age of the individual. The more complicated the problem and the older you are, the longer the period of the treatment.

Commonly, you can count on wearing braces for about 6-24 months.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is another method used to straighten teeth using a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that are custom-made specifically for your teeth. As you replace each aligner every two weeks, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week, gradually moving towards the projected final position.

Invisalign vs Braces

INVISALIGN BRACES TYPE
Allows you to remove it whenever you want Not removable
Allows you to eat whatever you want Difficulty in eating certain kind of food
It's a smooth plastic device instead of metal. One may experience some pain, discomfort, mouth sores or injuries caused by the brace wires
Allows you to brush and floss your teeth normally Brush brackets and wires regularly while brushing teeth
Time flexibility, as visits are usually scheduled every four to six weeks. Visits to your Orthodontist - about every month
Costs anywhere between 1 - 2.5 lakh Rs Costs anywhere between 10,000 - 1 lakh Rs

Foods to avoid

It is generally recommended to avoid sugary and starchy foods. Sweets, chips and aerated drinks are a definite no. Avoid hard, crunchy and sticky food like caramel toffee and ice cubes etc.

Caring for teeth during braces

Brush carefully after every meal with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and check your teeth in the mirror to make sure they're clean. Take time to floss between braces and under wires with the help of a floss threader. Have your teeth cleaned every six months to keep your gums and teeth healthy.

What after the braces come off?

Post the braces being removed, your Orthodontist will fit you with a retainer.

A retainer is a custom-made, removable or fixed appliance that helps teeth maintain their new position. It is a very important part of post-braces care.

Retainers, which are typically made of rubber or clear plastic and metal wires that cover the outside surface of the teeth, need to be worn all the time for the first six months and then usually only during sleep. The time frame for wearing a retainer will vary from patient to patient.
