Varicose veins of grade IV if ignored can burst and cause a medical emergency. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What are varicose veins?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Veins have one-way valves which control the direction of blood flow. When the valves in superficial veins fail, blood starts to pool in the vein. This condition is varicose veins.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Now, lets come to the important question.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Should I be concerned about them?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Let me make this clear, you should be concerned, but to what degree? Well, that depends on the grade of varicose veins.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Basically, there are four grades or stages of varicose veins<\/a>. They are: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • Varicose veins (Stage 1):<\/strong> Veins in the legs will appear bulged and twisted, and can be seen with the naked eye.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Edema or Swelling (Stage 2):<\/strong> Area of legs around varicose veins may start to swell. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Skin Discoloration (Stage 3):<\/strong> The skin colour of the leg may change.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Ulcer (Stage 4):<\/strong> If varicose veins are left ignored, an ulcer may develop.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    When Should You Consult a Doctor?<\/h3>\n

    If you feel soreness, mild pain or heaviness of leg or the area of legs around varicose veins start to swell then you might have this condition in its initial stages. If so, no need to worry. Consult a doctor and he will most likely prefer medical management which consists of medicines, exercises and special stockings. Just do as he says, you will be fine.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    If skin becomes discoloured, then you must consult a doctor, they may suggest minimally invasive treatments. These treatments are daycare procedures which mean you can walk back to your home on the same day of surgery. They are pretty safe too.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    When you see ulcer, that is when you should be quite concerned. Consult a doctor and he might suggest you minimally invasive treatments or surgery. <\/span>If all the other treatments have failed then the doctor might suggest surgery for varicose veins<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
